Water Leak If you are a homeowner you probably have a monthly water and sewer bill. In this case you have to check the leak between the meter and the main shutoff valve. Check the grass and surroundings if you see any wet spot, sagged grass or water standing then open the cover to the meter and check the small triangle shaped dial if it is turning slow, fast or not turning at all. Turn the water off from the main shutoff valve located by the side of house and see if the small triangle is turning or not if the small triangle is not turning or is dead in a time interval of two minutes then there is no leak outside the house. But if the triangle is turning then it means you have a leak somewhere outside the house between the meter and house. Now turn the main shut off valve on and see if the triangle on the meter is turning or not if it is turning slow then it means you have a slow leak somewhere inside the house if the triangle is turning fast then leak is major. Here you can do another quick test if the water is leaking from the hot side or cold side, keep in mind 80% of the leak in water main is on the hot line. Locate your water |

| heater and turn off the valve located on the cold side of water heater which is also the inlet side and then again check meter. If the meter is turning then it means the leak is on the cold side if the meter is not turning then the leak is on hot side. |
