Toilet Leaks: A faulty wax ring can cause toilet leaks. Your wax ring is what makes a seal between your toilet and your bathrooms pipes. A leaking flush valve can also cause leaks. Your flush valve is what "shoots" water from your toilet tank into the toilet bowl so you can actually flush your business down the pipes.
Obviously if this is leaking you've got problems! You can also have whats known as a leak flush pipe
Guide to Types of Copper Piping used in Buildings |

The following summary notes about copper and other types of building piping
Copper piping has been used extensively since the early 1950s for supply lines from the city main to the house as well as for in-building water supply and drain piping.
Copper water supply piping is typically 1/2 or 3/4 inch diameter. Copper piping is typically 1/2 or 3/4 inch diameter. Copper piping has soldered connections and the walls of the pipe are thinner than galvanized steel. Copper piping has soldered connections and the walls of the pipe are thinner than galvanized steel.
From 1950 to 1970, 1/2-inch diameter piping was used commonly. After 1970, 3/4-inch diameter copper service piping has been common. The life expectancy of copper piping is dependent on water conditions. In many areas, its life expectancy is indefinite. |

- In harsh corrosive water or corrosive soil conditions, it may fail within 20 years or even less. Occasionally manufacturing defects also result in early failure of copper building piping.
-
Type M copper piping is used for general plumbing, above ground. Type M copper tubing walls are the thinnest used in construction, at 0.026" in wall thickness and thus more vulnerable to leaks if water being handled is aggressive or corrosive.
-
Type L copper piping is also used for general plumbing as well as for heating system piping. Type L copper tubing walls are thicker, at 0.040".
-
Type K copper piping is used for plumbing, heating, gas lines, and underground, and has a wall thickness of 0.049".
Flexible copper tubing used as water piping : Flexible copper tubing can be bent around corners using special tools.
- This is not common since it is more expensive and can be awkward to work with in close quarters. Flexible copper tubing is also used for oil piping (OIL TANK PIPING & PIPING DEFECTS) and natural gas piping (GAS PIPING, VALVES, CONTROLS).

Galvanized Steel Water Supply Piping in Buildings
Galvanized steel is not commonly used as a service pipe, although galvanized steel fittings may be found at the point of entry into the house. Where galvanized service piping is used, it is typically at least 1 1/4-inch diameter. The word galvanized means zinc-coated. The coating helps prevent the steel from rusting.
Galvanized steel piping was common until roughly 1950. This piping typically lasts 40 to 60 years. Some lower-quality pipes do not last as long and there are some oversized pipes still in use after 60 years. Where it is found today in single-family homes, it is usually near the end of its life. |

Life expectancy of galvanized steel piping: Galvanized steel supply pipes are typically 1/2-inch diameter. The connections are threaded. When the pipe corrodes, the rust accumulation inside the pipe chokes down the diameter of the pipe, resulting in poor water pressure.
Rust also attacks the pipe walls, making the walls thinner. Eventually, the pipe will rust through, usually at the joints first, resulting in leakage.

Static pressure testing is performed to determine if there are any leaks within the sanitary sewer system. When leaks are indicated, process of static isolation testing, video camera inspection and electronic line location are executed. We are able to static pressure test the entire sanitary sewer system and pin-point any leaks within the system when a loss of static pressure is indicated.
Once the water , gas or sewer leaks have been pin-pointed, sewer line repairs are made un-intrusively with our trenchless (No-Dig) epoxy pipelining capabilities, or they are exposed and repaired using traditional methods of excavation (slab penetration or tunnel). Our sewer liner expertise and years of experience with these types of sewer leak repairs are shown through the clean, thorough and timely manner in which we conduct ourselves on every job, big and small. |

All jobs are done to proposed specifications at a fixed cost. All work is tested and comes with a 1-10 year warranty upon completion of job. All cast-in-place pipeliners come with a 10 year warranty.
The first step of lining procedure is to clean out all roots and descale any calcite, etc. in order to return the corroded pipe back to its original functioning diameter. To do this we either jet the lines or use pneumatic tools such as the scorpion cutter. Cast-iron pipe may require additional preparation if the pipe is badly corroded or there is a void in the pipe. |

- After the cleaning process is complete, the sewer lining can begin. Based upon the solution you and your technician have decided upon, the length of liner needed is cut, a custom two part epoxy is mixed and poured in to permeate the felt liner.
- The saturated liner is then pulled in place, the bladder is inflated and the curing begins. Once the epoxy lining has cured, the bladder is extracted, leaving a complete structural pipe within a pipe.

Homes and businesses in may be subject to unstable soil conditions that are all too common in this region. These problems are only amplified by leaking water and sewer systems, and combined can be a detrimental concoction for your foundation, costing thousands in foundation repair and restoration of your home or business.
Along with soil conditions, drainage and root intrusion, sub-slab plumbing leaks are a leading contributor to cracking walls, buckling floors and over all, a failing foundation.
If you are experiencing these types of problems with your home or business, a thorough checkup of your underground plumbing may be necessary to avoid continuous slab movement or to rule out plumbing leaks as a culprit of your shifty foundation.

There are several factors that can lead to leaking or failing pipes. Ground or slab movement can apply major force to underground plumbing causing breaks or leaks. Increases in chemicals and chloramines added to the water supply from municipal water treatment systems has sped up the erosion of copper water lines from within.
Chloramines etch away at copper piping, causing copper pipe pinhole leaks to occur in systems as little as five to ten years old. Homes or buildings built before the mid 70's most likely contain cast-iron or clay sewer lines. Pipes made of these type materials deteriorate and calcify causing major slab and drainage issues. Again, all of these plumbing factors directly contribute to foundation problems.

Water leak from water heater.
Discovering that your water heater is leaking can be a very scary experience. Not every water heater leak is a repair bill waiting in the wings. Condensation on the side of the tank can begin to pool around the base of your tank. In other case when the tank inside the water heater goes older starts leaking so if u see water at the bottom of water heater there is no surprise the tank is leaking and this leaking tank will not let the lid hold flame as the continuous leak of water will not let the flame stay. In this case definitely you will have to replace the water heater as the tanks are not fixable. |

- In a cold weather climate (temperatures can reach 30 degrees below zero!) and when the cold well water enters the tank and meets the warm water already inside the tank, this causes the condensation on the side of the tank.
- This issue will usually take care of itself as the tank warms up the incoming water and outside temperatures begin to rise.
- Another common problem is setting the thermostat temperature too high. This can create increased pressure in the tank causing the Temperature-Pressure Relief (TPR) valve to open and leave a puddle on your floor. Lowering the thermostat setting should fix this problem. However, keep in mind that water coming from the TPR valve may indicate a faulty valve.
- A faulty valve needs to be replaced immediately; otherwise your water heater may explode!
An easily overlooked solution to the problem of a leaking water heater is the drain valve is not tight.
As much as we all want to save money, it is important to understand that your water heater leaking can be a sign of a serious problem.
|
| |
Other main point of leak from the water heater is the supply lines water heaters are either connected with the flex lines or with hard lines to the shutoff valve the rust and isolation starts building around the inlet and outlet of the water heater where it connects with the supply lines and because of the pressure and high temperature of the hot water the water starts leaking and this leak may become a major leak resulting some major damage if it’s not addressed in time.
If the solutions in the article do not solve your problem or you are unsure if there is a more serious problem, never hesitate to call a trained professional to assess the situation. |

Water Leak By Meter One of the most important things you can do to save water is to check for and repair any leaks in your home. A small leak can waste a lot of water! Use the leak detector dial on your water meter to check for leaks. Like reading the odometer on a car, your water meter is read by recording the numbers from the left to the right. Turn off all faucets and water-using appliances, check the red dial. With no water use in the home the red dial should not be turning. The slightest movement means that water is being registered by the meter and that there is a leak.
The most common source of leaks is the toilet. Leaky toilets can usually be repaired inexpensively by replacing the flapper. |

Gas Leaks can result directly from vibration, chemical activity, corrosion, or mechanical flaws. Slow leaks from small defects or vibration can be dangerous, expensive, frustrating, time consuming, or lead to a reputation for poor quality and service
If you suspect that you have a gas leak in your house and you don’t own a gas leak detector you can detect one if…You smell a rotten egg odor. Because natural gas is odorless, gas companies put in a foul smell into the gas so that we can detect it easier.
You hear a hissing sound or see dirt coming out of the ground (when you are digging around your house watch out for any gas lines, which you may end up hitting). If you see a damaged connection to an appliance which uses natural gas (BBQ Grill, stove, etc.)If you feel that you have a gas leak, before turning off the gas valve on your natural gas you need to find out where the leak is coming from. Apply a 50/50 mixture of dish washer fluid and water onto the connections. You will start to see bubbles at the source of the gas leak. If you see connections on the tub, you’ll need to replace the tube connection. There’s a very good chance that you’ll see bubbles between two connecting pieces. Fixing a gas leak in this situation involves nothing more than tightening the connection. |

If the leak is really extensive, you should evacuate your house. If the smell of rotten eggs isn’t too overpowering, you can trying to fix the leak by yourself. Natural gas leaks are separated into grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3 leaks, with grade 3 being the smallest. You have to use your own judgment in deciding whether or not to say. Most of the articles I’ve seen telling you to evacuate and call professionals are plumbers who want your business. Nonetheless, if you have a leak and don’t want to take care of it yourself, your local plumber of the gas company itself can repair the leak for you and offer you gas leak detector services.
Whether you plan on staying in your house or evacuating it, you have to make sure that you don’t turn on or off any electrical appliances (this even involves not using your telephone). When you turn on a light switch on or off, for example, there is a tiny electrical spark, which has the potential to ignite the natural gas and start a fire or explosion. This also means that you can’t smoke or light fires. In general, just don’t use anything. |
